Emily Cai (they/them) is a farmer currently working with Wally Farms on Munsee Lenape/Mohican territory in the Hudson Valley. Before becoming a farmer, they lived abroad in China, France, the UK, and Germany. They have a Master’s degree in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action and have worked with organizations such as Reprieve and Rock the Vote. Ultimately, their background in human rights informed their decision to become a farmer, as they believe that agriculture and farming is a (if not ‘the’) major crux of all social and civil issues. Emily’s approach to farming focuses on food access, community engagement, building inclusive environments, and mitigating the climate crisis. Previously, they have farmed at Hof zur Hellen in Velbert, Germany, and Pine Root Farm in Steep Falls, Maine.
